Pelosi: Statement on Defense Secretary Gates' Decision to Reopen Bidding for Air Force Tanker Contract

"The decision by Secretary Gates  to reopen the competition on the Air Force tanker contract is an appropriate response to the Government Accountability Office' s conclusion that the original contract award process was flawed.

"It is essential that the American people have confidence that the military contracting process, which is critical to our national security, is fair and open. Congress has a responsibility to ensure that those standards are met; congressional oversight of the tanker program has been and will continue to be vigorous and thorough."
