Pelosi Statement on Devastating Storms in Midwest

Washington, D.C. - Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today on the tornadoes and storms that have hit Joplin, Missouri - killing at least 89 people - and cities across the Midwest:

'We offer our thoughts, prayers, and condolences to all of the families, friends, and loved ones of those lost in these devastating storms.  And we pledge our support, resources, and assistance to the state and local emergency personnel responding to this terrible tragedy, beginning the work of recovery, and ensuring the safety of Americans across Missouri and the Midwest.

'The people affected by these natural disasters are not alone as they confront the aftermath of the storms.  All Members of Congress stand ready to lend our support as the region assesses the damage and starts to rebuild their homes and communities.'
