Pelosi Statement on Discussions with Treasury Secretary Paulson on Economic Stimulus Package

January 15, 2008
Washington, D.C. - In preparation for this afternoon's House Democratic leadership meeting with Committee chairs on the economy, Speaker Nancy Pelosi continued her ongoing conversation with Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson about an economic stimulus package.   During her phone conversation with Secretary Paulson, Speaker Pelosi reiterated Leader Reid's and her commitment to working with the President to seek a bipartisan economic stimulus plan. Below is Speaker Pelosi's statement:

'Speaking today with Secretary Paulson, it was clear that we shared a sense of urgency about current economic conditions as we discussed the parameters of what might be contained in an economic stimulus package.  We also discussed the subprime mortgage crisis and the importance of getting legislation signed into law to bring relief to families threatened by foreclosures.

'The conversation between Congress and the Administration will continue as we develop an economic stimulus plan that is timely, targeted and temporary and one that restores confidence -- consumer confidence and confidence in the market.'
