Pelosi Statement on Labor Day
Washington, D.C. - Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today on Labor Day, which falls on Monday, September 5:
"On Labor Day, we honor our nation's workers - the building blocks of our middle class and the backbone of America's economic strength. We recommit ourselves to the causes of good wages, and safety and fair treatment in the workplace. And we remain focused on addressing the top priority of working families and all Americans: job creation.
"For the American people, there is no more urgent task than creating jobs. Democrats have put forward a clear agenda: to strengthen manufacturers and small businesses, to rebuild our roads, bridges, schools, and airports, to invest in innovation and clean energy. These commonsense steps warrant bipartisan support; our country can ill afford to spend anymore time on measures that won't become law and won't create jobs.
"For generations, the men and women of our nation's workforce have been a source of pride and prosperity. On their behalf, and in the name of all working families, we have advanced the values of fairness, equality, and opportunity for all. On this Labor Day, and every day, we must stand strong for this same cause: to create jobs, grow our economy, and strengthen our middle class."
