"On Labor Day, we honor hardworking Americans who are the foundation of our nation's strength and renew our commitment to fairness and opportunity for all working people.

"As we also celebrate Women's Equality Day this week, we remember the strong role labor has played in the advocacy of equal pay for America's women.  For generations, labor has led the way forward for progress and prosperity – serving as the great guardians of the middle class which is the backbone of our democracy.  Yet today, American workers find themselves under attack from Republicans' relentless special interest priorities

"Working families – members of the middle class and people who aspire to join the middle class – deserve an economy that works for everyone, not just the privileged few.  This Labor Day, let's jumpstart the middle class through good-paying jobs, affordable education, and unleashing the full potential of America's women. Let's honor the strength and determination of American workers by championing their rights, wages and opportunities.  Let us reignite the American Dream and improve the lives of our hardworking Americans for generations to come."
