Pelosi Statement on Meehan's Nomination as Chancellor of University of Massachusetts Lowell

Washington, D.C. - Speaker Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today after Congressman Marty Meehan announced his nomination to be the next Chancellor of the University of Massachusetts Lowell:

'Congressman Marty Meehan has been a leader in the Congress and the Democratic caucus for more 14 years.  He has championed a number of significant causes - including equal rights, campaign finance reform, and protecting our children from the dangers of tobacco.

'I know this was not an easy decision for Marty, but I know he will make an excellent Chancellor at UMass Lowell, and I wish him well in leading his alma mater.  He will certainly be missed by his colleagues in the House.'
