Pelosi -- Statement on Meeting With British Prime Minister Gordon Brown

July 30, 2007
Washington, D.C. -- Speaker Nancy Pelosi, House Republican Leader John Boehner, and other House Members met in Pelosi's office this afternoon with British Prime Minister Gordon Brown and British Foreign Secretary David Miliband.  Below are the Speaker's remarks to the press before the meeting:

'On behalf of the Members of Congress, I'm delighted and honored to welcome the Prime Minister of Great Britain to the Capitol of the United States, along with the Foreign Secretary.

'The relationship between our two countries is one that is historic and treasured on both sides of the Atlantic.  I know it is in the United States.  We look forward to speaking with the Prime Minister on issues of mutual concern - the war on terror, climate change issues, stopping the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, the alleviation of poverty, all issues in which he and his government have been in the lead for a long time.

'I'm pleased to yield now to our distinguished Republican leader in the House of Representatives, Mr. Boehner, to join in welcoming Mr. Brown and Mr. Miliband.'
