Pelosi Statement on Aetna’s Participation in Health Insurance Marketplaces

"Aetna's decision not to participate in some Health Insurance Marketplaces does not alter the reality that the Affordable Care Act's Marketplaces will continue to provide quality, affordable coverage to millions and millions of Americans across the country.

"Insurers are continuing to adapt to the necessity of competing on quality and cost, instead of being able to leave Americans with pre-existing conditions out in the cold.  It's not a surprise that in a competitive marketplace, some insurers have adapted more quickly and successfully than others.

"The Affordable Care Act and its marketplaces are driving down the uninsured rate to historic lows and providing newfound health security to millions of hard-working American families.  Despite Republicans' relentless efforts to undermine this historic law and the affordable health coverage it provides, the Affordable Care Act is working."
