Pelosi Statement on Collapse of Speaker Ryan’s Pledges of Regular Order
June 8, 2016
Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement after the Republican Rules committee announced that Republicans will abandon regular order for upcoming appropriation bills and allow the Republican Leadership to weed out amendments at will:
"Today's announcement by Speaker Ryan's Rules Committee is only Republicans' latest violation of their pledges of regular order.
"It has long been clear that regular order is not as important to Republicans as protecting their special interest agenda. Republicans are clearly afraid of the will of the House when it comes to protecting LGBT Americans or standing up for hard-working families.
"Meanwhile, the GOP leadership will continue to salt bills with poison pill riders that attack women's health, the environment, workers' rights and vital Wall Street reforms. Once again, Republicans are trying and failing to hide their radicalism and discrimination from the eyes of the American people."
