Pelosi Statement on Deadly Earthquake in Central Italy

San Francisco – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement after an earthquake and multiple, strong aftershocks struck central Italy, killing scores:

"The devastating earthquake in central Italy is a tragedy that saddens all those who love Italy and its people.  Our hearts are with the victims and their families, and we pray that more will be rescued from the rubble.

"It was my privilege to lead a Congressional delegation that met with senior Italian leadership earlier this month.  Our nations share a bond embodied by our enduring partnership as friends and allies, and strengthened by the contributions of generations of proud Italian-Americans across our history.

"The United States stands in solidarity with the people of Italy in this sad and difficult time.  May it be a comfort to these communities that so many around the world are holding them in their hearts and hoping for their recovery."
