Pelosi Statement on Paris Climate Agreement Reaching Implementation Threshold

"Today represents a proud milestone for the Paris Climate Agreement and a vital step forward in confronting the climate crisis that threatens our world.  President Obama and Secretary Kerry are to once again be commended for their leadership in uniting the international community to make such a bold global commitment to act on climate.  Building on the foundation of progress first hammered out by Secretary Clinton, the world has come together around a transformational climate accord.

"In the face of growing asthma rates, record droughts, surging flood waters and rising oceans, we cannot fail to confront the climate crisis with the seriousness it demands.  For America to lead the clean energy economy of the future, we must continue to set ambitious goals and take the bold action required to meet them.  We will continue to protect the historic promise of the Clean Power Plan to reduce carbon pollution in the air we breathe.

"Our children cannot afford Republicans' willful and destructive blindness on the climate crisis.  House Republicans must end their brazen special interest denial and join Democrats to meet our moral responsibility to address the climate crisis and protect the health and safety of future generations."
