Pelosi Statement on Passing of Former Congressman Martin Sabo

"Congressman Martin Sabo was the embodiment of good sense, legislative leadership, and lifelong service to our country.  He represented the people of Minnesota with honor and distinction for the better part of half a century – including 28 years of leadership in the House of Representatives.

"As a chairman of the Budget Committee and a long-time appropriator, Congressman Sabo was a forward-looking and solution-oriented leader.  He helped forge the 1993 deficit reduction agreement, and secured vital investments in strong transit infrastructure, robust public housing, and world-class care for our veterans.

"Martin Sabo was a progressive champion who held the respect and the friendship of colleagues on both sides of the aisle, many of whom often sought his wisdom on the budget.  His fundamental responsibility and his deep dedication to America's hard-working families embodied some of the best of our democracy.  May it be a comfort to the entire Sabo family that so many join in mourning the passing of this great man."
