"Janet Reno's trailblazing tenure as the first woman Attorney General leaves an enduring legacy for justice in our nation.

"For eight years, Janet Reno served as our top law enforcement officer with integrity, strength and honor.  Under her leadership, the Department of Justice reduced crime, prosecuted terrorism, and implemented historic legislation, including the groundbreaking Violence Against Women Act and the Brady background check bill.

"By her example and by her efforts, Janet Reno expanded the opportunities and strengthened the rights of America's women.  May it be a comfort to Janet Reno's family that so many share in their sorrow at the passing of this extraordinary woman."
