Pelosi Statement on Rep. Sandy Levin’s Decision Not to Seek Re-Election as Ranking Member of Ways & Means

November 29, 2016
Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement after Congressman Sandy Levin announced he will not seek re-election as Ranking Member of the Ways and Means Committee:

"As Chairman and as Ranking Member of Ways and Means, Sandy Levin has been a tireless champion for working families.  The strength of his values and the power of his expertise are a great asset to Democrats on everything from health care to tax reform to trade.  Congressman Levin was invaluable in preventing the privatization of Social Security and in helping to enact the landmark Affordable Care Act.  Of course, Ranking Member Levin has been an especially respected and powerful voice for American workers and American manufacturing on trade issues.

"Our Caucus is deeply grateful for Sandy Levin's leadership on Ways and Means, and we will continue to be strengthened by his wisdom as Republicans begin their assault on Medicare and the health care of 20 million previously uninsured Americans."
