Pelosi Statement on Republicans’ Reconciliation Bill Enrollment Ceremony
January 7, 2016
Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement after Republicans' enrollment ceremony for the reconciliation bill defunding Planned Parenthood, officially readying the legislation for the President's veto:
"Republicans are trying to take family planning and lifesaving preventive care away from millions of American women, but they will fail. This appalling bill will be vetoed by the President, and House Democrats are ready to sustain the President's veto. It is an insult to women and a waste of time and taxpayer dollars.
"Hard-working American families want Congress to be creating more good-paying jobs and raising their paychecks – not grandstanding on women's most intimate decisions. While Republicans congratulate themselves for their latest dead-end attack on women's health, Democrats will continue to stand strong for the women and working families of America."
