Pelosi Statement on Senate Passage of Bipartisan Permanent Doc Fix

Washington, D.C. — Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement after bipartisan legislation to permanently fix the SGR formula of Medicare physician payments and to extend the Children's Health Insurance Plan overwhelmingly passed the Senate by a vote of 92 to 8:

"Tonight's vote represents a big victory for America's seniors, children and families. With the Senate passage of this bipartisan legislation, we have finally replaced the broken SGR formula and set Medicare on a path away from a volume-based system toward one that rewards value, ensures the accuracy of payments, and improves the quality of care.

"Through this bold, necessary legislation, we have secured critical support for low-income seniors, for poor children, and for underserved communities across the country.

"At long last, we have restored certainty to seniors, stability to providers, and clarity to our budget. I am proud of the bipartisan work that made this day possible, and I look forward to President Obama signing this bill into law."
