Pelosi Statement on U.S.-Russia Agreement on Syria Cooperation

"The agreement between the U.S. and Russia announced yesterday opens a new pathway for progress to reduce the brutal violence in Aleppo and across Syria.

"Syrian families caught in the middle of this conflict have endured heartbreaking horrors.  This agreement will provide a measure of protection and relief for Syrians who have already suffered so much – both from the ground fighting and indiscriminate airstrikes by Russia and the Assad regime.

"For the sake of the Syrian people and stability of the region, we must continue to take steps toward transitioning away from Assad's rule.  With the partnership of the international community, we will continue to work to end the violence and advance a framework for peace."
