Pelosi Statement on Passing of Former Congressman Lane Evans

November 6, 2014
Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement regarding the passing of former Congressman Lane Evans of Illinois who died today at the age of 63:

"Today, we mourn the passing of a champion for our veterans, our military families and hardworking people across America.

"In each of his 12 terms in Congress, Lane Evans proved himself to be a tenacious fighter for those who served our country in uniform.  A Vietnam War-era veteran who served in Okinawa, Congressman Evans took the struggles of our military families personally.  His determined leadership was instrumental in passing legislation to assist veterans exposed to Agent Orange, and to ensuring that the veterans of all generations would receive the support and benefits they deserve.

"Each and every day, Congressman Evans fought to strengthen the middle class and to expand the ladders of opportunity that define the American Dream.  His dedication to the working families of Illinois shall remain a lasting legacy of his life.  We hope that it is a comfort to his brothers and loved ones that so many share their sadness at this difficult time."
