Pelosi Statement on President Bush's Remarks at Conference on Global Warming

September 28, 2007
Washington, D.C. -- Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued the following statement today in response to President Bush's remarks this morning to leaders of 15 major economic powers on climate change:

'As the world's biggest emitter of greenhouse gases, the United States must lead by example and take the necessary steps to reduce greenhouse gases.  An effective initiative must be based on mandatory standards to protect our planet, not the voluntary goals and incremental approach supported by the Administration.

'While I look forward to being briefed on the results of the President's meetings with the world's biggest polluter nations, I hope that his efforts will not be used to circumvent the upcoming United Nations Climate Change Conference in Bali.'
