Pelosi Statement on President's Title X Request

Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement on the President's request to train and equip moderate Syrians, which is being considered by the House this week:

"I support the President's request to train moderate Syrians outside of Syria in order to degrade and ultimately destroy ISIS.

"The President and Vice President are to be commended for their efforts to act compassionately with humanitarian assistance, politically within Iraq to build a government of reconciliation, and diplomatically to bring together our NATO allies and regional powers.

"The American people understand that ISIS must be stopped.  I wish such actions were not necessary, but we must vote to approve the President's request to help the Syrian people take responsibility for building peace and security in their country, and to stem the threat ISIS poses to U.S. interests abroad and to our national security."
