Pelosi Statement on Reversal of House Ethics Committee on Privately-Funded Travel Disclosure

July 3, 2014

San Francisco – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement regarding the decision by the House Ethics Committee to reverse course and reinstate the disclosure requirements for privately-funded travel for Members of Congress and staff in annual Financial Disclosure filings:

"I applaud the decision of the Ethics Committee to reconsider its guidance regarding disclosure of privately-funded travel and reinstate the requirement that Members and covered staff report such travel on their annual Financial Disclosure statements, as well as on the Clerk's website.  While I understand the rationale behind the original action, I believe that full transparency and greater disclosure in this area, the goal sought by the Democratic legislation passed in 2007, is better served by today's decision."
