Pelosi Statement on Senate Republicans Blocking Tax Relief for the Middle Class

Washington, D.C. - Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement tonight after Senate Republicans voted to block extension of the payroll tax cut for middle class Americans:

"Tonight, Senate Republicans laid their cards on the table - putting the interests of people who make more than a million dollars a year ahead of a serious tax cut for the middle class.  Now, they want to stack the deck against working families with a plan to limit tax cuts for all Americans and small businesses, and toss hundreds of thousands of Americans out of work.

"Democrats are committed to a payroll tax cut that spurs our economy, creates more jobs, and puts money in the pockets of the American people.  Americans can't wait any longer."
