Pelosi Statement on Weekend Events in Israel

Washington, D.C. - Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today on clashes along Israel's borders over the weekend:

"Our thoughts and prayers today rest with the families, friends, and loved ones of all those killed, wounded, or injured in the recent clashes along Israel's borders.  We urge all sides to exercise restraint, to avoid any additional confrontations, and to prevent further provocations of violence.

"Israel maintains the right to defend itself, to protect its borders, and to ensure the safety and security of its people, families, and citizens.  And all of Israel's neighbors must act to put an end to any activities that foment conflict or encourage violent behavior.

"It is our hope that this weekend's events will not repeat themselves and that all countries and parties will work for peace and security in Israel and throughout the Middle East."
