A new Economist/YouGov Poll released this week not only reveals that a mere 16 percent approve of how the so-called ‘New American Congress' is handling its job, but they are dissatisfied with the Republican leaders in charge of both chambers.  From YouGov:

Republicans…dislike the GOP leadership in Congress…

Republicans don't like their leaders.  Just over a third have a favorable opinion about GOP Speaker of the House John Boehner, and only a few more like Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.

…More than a third of Republicans…describe each man as a weak leader.

Conservatives disapprove of the way each man in handling the job…47% of conservatives disapprove of Boehner's management

Boehner's problems with Republicans are obvious looking at the way Republicans describe him.  Asked to give a single word, there are clearly more negative references than positive ones.

Yet, the results didn't stop Speaker Boehner from telling reporters:

"I am proud of what we have accomplished in Congress so far this year…I'm also proud of what we've accomplished as a Republican majority…"  [Weekly Press Conference, 7/29]

Bottom line: not only are GOP leaders viewed in negative light, but as the New York Times stated, even Republicans "dislike…their accomplishments."
