When asked this morning if the Export-Import Bank would have any economic impact if Congress fails to reauthorize its charter, Speaker Boehner responded:

"I don't know."  [GOP Press Conference, 6/24/14]

Mr. Speaker, here are some facts – just so you're up to date:

  • In 2013, the Ex-Im Bank supported the financing of over 3,400 American small-business exporters;
  • Since 2009, the agency has supported 1.2 million jobs in the United States.
  • In 2013, the Ex-Im Bank financed over $815 million for woman-owned and minority-owned small businesses;
  • In 2013, Ex-Im Bank sent a record $1.05 billion to the Treasury in profits;
  • In 2013, the bank authorized $27 billion to support an estimated $37.4 billion in U.S. export sales; and
  • If Congress fails to reauthorize the charter, over 200,000 American jobs will be in jeopardy.

Mr. Speaker, yes – this does have an economic impact.
