Speaker Boehner & GOP 'silent,' 'mum' on frivolous lawsuit

October 25, 2014
Blog Post
First, Republicans had no clue how much their frivolous lawsuit would end up costing American taxpayers' money.  Then, the partisan $500 taxpayer dollars an hour big shot GOP lawyer they initially hired bailed on them.  Now, it turns out Speaker Boehner and House Republicans just don't know when they're going to file the feckless and perilous lawsuit.  In fact…

…House Republicans haven't managed to make that trip [from the Capitol to the federal courthouse just down the hill] in the four months since they announced they'd be suing the president…House Speaker John Boehner came out swinging hard last June when he announced that his chamber would take President Barack Obama to court…But days before the midterms the House's legal guns seem to have fallen silent.

the GOP is mum on why the suit has yet to be filed…"I thought this was a constitutional crisis and the republic was in jeopardy because Obama overstepped his bounds. Now, they can't even get around to filing it?" asked former House Counsel Stan Brand... "It, to me, emphasizes the not-serious nature of it."

…"No decisions on timing at this point," spokesman Kevin Smith said Friday. He declined to comment…on reasons for the delay…Following Rivkin's exit, the House tapped a former lawyer in President George W. Bush's White House, Bill Burck, to take over the case. He did not respond to an e-mail seeking comment for this story.  [10/24]

We're far from the headlines that gained an immense amount of coverage:

So much for…

the "accountability" Speaker Boehner was looking for;

the "frustration" GOP Conference Chair McMorris-Rodgers expressed; and

"bringing back the three co-equal branches" that GOP Leader McCarthy wanted.

Speaker Boehner, enough with the frivolous yet perilous gimmicks; stop creating a pathway to impeachment with this lawsuit.
