What's their next move? Though Speaker Ryan said days earlier during a Fox Newsinterview that additional changes to TrumpCare "wouldn't be able to pass…in the Senate," press reports indicate he and House Republicans are considering worsening their sick health care legislation in the dead of night in order to gain the backing of the far-right, extreme coalition of their Conference:
White House budget director Mick Mulvaney is working with Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.), chairman of the hardline conservative coalition, to strike Obamacare's lengthy list of essential benefits...
A senior leadership aide said Speaker Paul Ryan would support the move and that Ryan's office has been assured removing the benefits would not preclude it from being procedurally blocked under the Senate's strict budget rules…though some legislators worry that's not true.
But for Republican leaders, facts and the truth about TrumpCare process are difficult things to share and swallow. As Chairman Pete Sessions emphasized moments ago during the Rules Committee hearing: "if these were Byrdable type amendments" – meaning if the new changes violate a Senate provision in the reconciliation process – "then who cares..."
