Top Republicans to GOP Congressional Leaders: 'Get a grip..' & Pass CIR

November 21, 2014
Blog Post
Last night, President Obama addressed the nation highlighting his courageous first step to fix our broken immigration system – and what do top Republicans advise their temper tantrum GOP colleagues to do?

"...best thing Congress can do…is pass a comprehensive bill." –Former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales for President George W. Bush [11/21/14]

"…anyone in our Party who says ‘we have to lock up the borders first,' is illogical...the Republican Party cannot be against...keeping nuclear families together…" –Nicole Wallace, Former Communications Director for President George W. Bush [11/20/14]

"get a grip, [House GOP]…you have the solution already in front of you.  The Senate, in bipartisan effort, passed a bill…you have the solution in your hand." –Republican Strategist and Former Lieutenant Governor of Maryland Michael Steele [11/19/2014]

Republican Aaron Schock even said this morning on MSNBC's Morning Joe that he "agreed with a lot of what" President Obama said.  Yet rather than welcoming the courageous actions and vowing to build upon the historic first step, congressional Republicans had the audacity to respond with the following:

@SpeakerBoehner

This is not how American democracy works. http://j.mp/14TXemM #immigration #amnesty

@GOPLeader

It is our obligation & responsibility to fight this brazen power grab that doesn't solve the real problems. http://1.usa.gov/1yvYrJN

@GOPHispanic

#ExecutiveAction doesn't secure borders & it doesn't provide a LongTerm solution to undocumented. We need a real fix

@SteveKingIA

Obama has torn Article I from our Constitution and claimed it for himself. It shall not be so. Mark my word. Defund!!

@SenTedCruz

Pres. Obama's unconstitutional amnesty is in defiance of Congress and the American people

@RepLynnJenkins

It is time for the President to stop repeating past mistakes, listen to the American people & join Congress in solving problems.

@RepReneeEllmers

The president vowed to work with Congress on #immigration, but where is the collaboration in issuing a unilateral executive action?

@Raul_Labrador

Read my statement after @BarackObama's immigration announcement. I'm deeply concerned. http://on.fb.me/1tfE17G

@TGowdySC

Attempts to undermine the law via executive fiat, regardless of motivation, are dangerous.
