While Republicans Intensify Their Quest to Kill Ex-Im Bank, Democrats Work to Protect It

When it comes to the job-creating Export Import Bank, The Hill made clear Speaker Boehner is "caught in Ex-Im crossfire" and still refuses to take a stand while repeatedly shifting any Ex-Im Bank attention to House GOP Financial Services Chairman Hensarling – the GOP leader who's said:

Republicans in the House and Senate need to let it expire—and as chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, I am helping lead the charge to see that we do.  [6/3/2015]

More extremist House Republicans are following suit and intensifying their obstruction, dysfunction and distraction to kill American jobs:

  • McClatchy DC – House Republicans increase attacks on Export-Import Bank of U.S.

Key Republicans in the House of Representatives stepped up their assault on the Export-Import Bank…vowing to kill the federal bank that helps U.S. businesses sell their products overseas.

Opponents in both the House and the Senate have succeeded in keeping the renewal from coming up for votes (in which a pro-bank, mostly Democratic coalition would almost certainly prevail), and without action the bank will shut down at month's end.

But House Democrats, on the other hand, continue making the case to renew the Bank's charter – fighting for American jobs and the job-creating Ex-Im Bank.

Here's the bottom line: back in 2012, 147 House Republicans, including then Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy, joined Democrats in overwhelmingly renewing the Export-Import Bank that has supported 1.5 million private sector American jobs since 2007 and 164,000 export-related American jobs last year alone.

Mr. Speaker – mayors and Governors of both parties from across the country urge Congress to reauthorize the Bank's charter.  Over 1,000 businesses call for its renewal.  Instead of threatening to eliminate the Export-Import Bank that enables American manufacturers to sell U.S. made goods overseas, Republicans need to stop jeopardizing American jobs.  Now is the time for a long-term reauthorization to renew, reenergize and reform the Bank, so that it can continue supporting jobs across the country!
