"Rep. Nancy Pelosi, the Democratic leader in the House, is celebrating 25 years as a member of Congress on Saturday and the celebrations and commemorations of the milestone have been epic. There have been million-dollar fundraisers and lectures with former presidents; San Francisco streets have been named after her and there were concerts with rock star Bono and the remaining members of the Grateful Dead."

“For us, she really represents the tenacity and passion around the HIV and AIDS epidemic that we don't see enough from our government leaders,” executive director Adam Tenner told the Blade. “She's an amazing person committed to HIV and AIDS.”

"Pelosi has long been an advocate for campaign finance reform, and in an election year amplified by an aggressive fight for women voters, Pelosi said a less money-fueled political system would bring greater diversity to the halls of Congress."

“The gentle-lady and I have differing political philosophies and we have had some real battles here on the floor,” Boehner said. “But I know I speak for the whole House when I rise today and say to the gentle-lady from California, Ms. Pelosi, congratulations on 25 years of real service to this institution.”

“No one has fought harder than Nancy Pelosi since the day she came into office 25 years ago,” Bono, who co-founded the anti-poverty campaign ONE, said. “Millions of people all over the world owe their lives to Nancy and the bipartisan coalition that fought to contain the AIDS epidemic, not just here in America, but in the poorest parts of this planet.”

"Democrats and President Obama have supported a grand bargain to spur our economy and reduce our deficit in a balanced way. We hope Republicans return to negotiations after walking away. Until then, we must not allow the middle class and small businesses to pay the price. We must invest in jobs and growth, as we reduce the deficit and restore certainty for Americans."

"Although she was born into a powerful Baltimore political family, Nancy Pelosi, who has represented San Francisco in Congress for the past quarter century, once believed she'd never run for office."

“If you really look at the single individual that is the standard bearer for making sure that those who were discriminated against or didn't have health care or lost their job, it is Nancy Pelosi,” he said.
