With only three days left before Republican Government Shutdown, the GOP's dysfunction and refusal to back-off their extreme, ideological demands is taking this nation down a dangerous partisan path that will hurt our economy, threaten job creation, and leave our families with less security, and our country with less certainty and stability.

As Leader Pelosi said this morning:

The consequences of Speaker Boehner handing the gavel to the Tea Party are growing more severe as the GOP goes forward with a Republican Government Shutdown and their plan to hold the full faith and credit of the United States hostage to their radical agenda.

This is madness.

Our nation is hurtling toward a government shutdown because House Republicans and Tea Party Senators are refusing to fund the federal government unless they can repeal the Affordable Care Act and put insurance companies back in charge of Americans' health.  This dangerous game will cause deep disruption in the lives of American workers, their families and businesses small and large.

A new CNBC poll conducted by Hart-McInturff finds that a solid majority of Americans (59% to 19%) oppose defunding the new health care law if it means shutting down the government and defaulting on debt.  The key stat in the poll shows the disparity between Tea Party Republicans and the rest of the party:

This afternoon, 80 House Republicans sent a letter to Speaker Boehner and Majority Leader Cantor demanding the House refuse to pass any legislation to fund the federal government – even continuing appropriations – if it includes funding for the Affordable Care Act.
