President Obama is working to restore American leadership worldwide and build bonds of friendship across the globe. The Nobel Peace Prize is a testament to his leadership and vision and a tribute to American values. I offer my congratulations to President Obama on this outstanding achievement.

Health insurance reform opponents continue to spread myths about America's Affordable Health Choices Act, including that reform will lead to a "government takeover" of the health care system.

There has been a federal hate crimes law since 1968 because Americans recognize that bias-motivated crimes of violence have no place in our country. The current federal hate crimes law authorizes federal aid in cases of hate crimes committed because of a person's race, color, religion, or national origin.

In our current health care system, women often face higher health costs than men and multiple other barriers to health insurance. Fewer women are eligible for employer-based coverage, and comprehensive coverage in the individual health care market is often unavailable or prohibitively expensive.
