Today, the Energy Information Administration (EIA) released a report confirming previous estimates of the low costs and large benefits of the American Clean Energy and Security Act that the House passed in June:

During the August district work period, Democrats are meeting with their constituents about the health insurance reform and America's Affordable Health Choices Act. Unfortunately, those not interested in health insurance reform are disrupting public meetings and not allowing concerned constituents to ask questions and express their views.

“Approximately seven out of 10 deaths in the United States are linked to chronic disease. Exposure to air pollution and harmful chemicals has been linked to many of these illnesses, including asthma, cancer and neurological disorders,” said Speaker Pelosi. “In California, for example, more than 33 million people live in areas where high levels of air pollution pose health risks, and breast cancer rates in San Francisco are among the highest in the country."

Tonight, the House Energy and Commerce Committee passed America's Affordable Health Choices Act by a vote of 31-28:

In the wake of General Motors and Chrysler filing for bankruptcy, layoffs of auto workers, and the closure of car dealerships, Congress passed the "Cash For Clunkers" program last month to provide consumers who trade in their old, gas-guzzling vehicles with vouchers worth up to $4,500 to help pay for new, more fuel efficient cars and trucks.
