California voters legally outlawed same-sex marriage when they approved Proposition 8 in November, but the constitutional amendment did not dissolve the unions of 18,000 gay and lesbian couples who wed before the measure took effect, the state Supreme Court ruled today.
The 111th Congress is committed to addressing the needs of America's service men and women as well as those of their families. While we salute our men and women in uniform for the courage and bravery that they exhibit in battle, we must also recognize the sacrifices of their families.
In the first five months of this year, the New Direction Congress accomplished a great deal for our men and women in uniform and for our veterans, building on what we did last Congress.
