Rep. Lofgren Issues Statement on Voting Memorandum

Washington, D.C. -- Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-CA) today issued the following statement on a recent Heritage Foundation memorandum on non-citizen voting.

Washington, D.C. -- Speaker Nancy Pelosi today issued the following statement today in reaction to the 1.1 percent jump in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) in June--the largest one-month increase in this key measure of inflation since 1982. In the last 12 months, the CPI rose 5 percent--the largest jump over a one-year period since 1991.

The House has just voted overwhelmingly, 383 to 41, to override the President's veto of the Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act, H.R. 6331. This legislation prevents the pending 10 percent payment reduction for physicians in Medicare, enhances Medicare preventive and mental health benefits, improves and extends programs for low-income Medicare beneficiaries, and extends expiring provisions for rural and other providers.

Once again, the oilman in the White House is echoing the demands of Big Oil.

The Bush plan is a hoax. It will neither reduce gas prices nor increase energy independence. It just gives millions more acres to the same companies that are sitting on nearly 68 million acres of public lands and coastal areas.

If the President wants to bring down prices in the next two weeks, not the next two decades, he should free our oil by releasing a small portion of the more than 700 million barrels of oil we have put in the Strategic Petroleum Reserve.
