After twice vetoing bipartisan legislation to give 10 million children health insurance, the President has begun the new year by opposing health care for adults who are in need. The President is unlawfully restricting the ability of states to expand eligibility for Medicaid and denying millions of Americans health coverage.

For the first time, the price of oil has risen to more than $100 a barrel -- almost four times the price when President Bush took office.

Last month, the New Direction Congress passed landmark energy security legislation that included a historic CAFE increase to boost fuel efficiency standards for our cars and trucks, a Renewable Fuels Standard to dramatically increase homegrown American biofuels that reduce our dependence on foreign oil, and requirements that root out manipulation of energy prices.

The brutal assassination of former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto is a tragic setback for the restoration of democracy in Pakistan. Her courageous return to Pakistan this year gave hope to all those concerned by efforts to extinguish rule of law there.

Washington, D.C. -- Speaker Nancy Pelosi sent the following letter today to Stephen L. Johnson, Administrator at the Environmental Protection Agency concerning his agency's decision this week to deny the Clean Air Act waiver requested by the state of California.
