Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi released this statement in observance of the 60th anniversary of Tibetan Uprising Day, which commemorates resistance to occupation by Chinese government forces in Tibet on March 10, 1959:

“Nuclear nonproliferation is a pillar of America’s national security, and serious diplomatic efforts to achieve that goal on the Korean peninsula must be respected and supported.  Sadly, it has taken President Trump two summits to figure out that North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un is not committed to denuclearization.  Disturbingly, the IAEA this week reported indications of ongoing nuclear weapons production-related activities by North Korea at the Yongbyon complex.

“On behalf of my colleagues, I want to thank Danny Weiss for his leadership and for nearly 28 years of invaluable service to the House of Representatives,” Speaker Pelosi said.  “Danny’s efforts were vital to our Caucus’ strength and unity throughout his time as Chief of Staff, as Democrats developed our For The People agenda and won an historic midterm victory.  I am especially indebted to him for his masterful work orchestrating the transition to the Speaker’s office.”
