“This year, as the world celebrates LGBTQ Pride Month, we take time to reflect on the heartbreaking, hateful attack at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Florida that took the lives of 49 beautiful souls two years ago.  As we mark this tragic day, we continue to mourn for the victims and send our prayers and support to the survivors and families still coming to terms with their grief.  And together, we reaffirm beyond all doubt that hatred will never defeat pride. 

Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi issued this statement after President Trump concluded a summit with Kim Jong-un in Singapore:

“Over a century old, San Francisco’s Embarcadero Seawall underpins many of our most iconic and popular destinations, with millions of annual visitors and more than $100 billion in assets and economic activity. Today’s selection of the Seawall is a crucial first step in the Army Corps process of determining federal interest that can lead to significant federal funding to repair and upgrade the seawall to withstand the next major earthquake and provide vital flood protection from sea level rise. It was my privilege to fight in the Congress to ensure robust Corps civil works funding, and to advocate along with the Port of San Francisco for the Seawall to be selected by the Corps so we can protect downtown San Francisco and ensure the survival of our treasured Embarcadero.”

“The U.S.-North Korea summit that will begin shortly is an historic opportunity to build a more secure, stable Korean Peninsula and to reassert American leadership in Asia.  We all want to see diplomacy succeed with North Korea – indeed, diplomatic engagement is the only way to deal with this crisis.

“The Trump Administration’s inhumanity and heartlessness know no bounds.  Republicans in the White House have just condemned countless vulnerable, innocent women to a lifetime of violence and even death, just to score political points with their base.  This act of staggering cruelty insults our nation’s values and our proud history as a land of hope and freedom for those fleeing pain and persecution at home.

Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi issued this statement after the Supreme Court handed down a dangerous, wrongly-decided decision in Husted v. APRI, upholding Ohio’s voter registration purge policy:

"Today, the Trump Administration has set into motion the destruction of the free and open Internet.  Their brazen giveaway to big corporate interests will soon hit consumers and small businesses with higher costs and less choice, threatening young people's access to the good-paying jobs of the future and jeopardizing the entrepreneurial American spirit that is the envy of the world.

“On June 10, 1963, President John F. Kennedy signed into law the Equal Pay Act, affirming that all women are entitled to equal pay for equal work. Since the enactment of the Equal Pay Act, progress has been made, but much more needs to be done. Fifty-five years after the law was enacted, women still earn on average only 80 cents for every dollar earned by a man. For minority women, the wage gap is even larger, with African American women earning only 63 cents and Latinas earning only 54 cents for every dollar earned by white men.
