Washington, D.C. – House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi joined Members of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC) and Asian American DREAMers for a press conference urging the passage of the bipartisan, bicameral DREAM Act. Below are the Leader’s remarks:

Today, we mourn a beautiful life and celebrate a legacy of love, strength and family. We pay tribute to a courageous woman who demanded the full respect her marriage deserved – and in doing so, advanced justice and equality for all.

Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement after the Census Bureau released its report for 2016, finding that the percentage of Americans without health insurance coverage reached an all-time low of 8.8 percent:

Each September 11, Americans bow our heads to remember the horrific attack that cut short the lives of nearly 3,000 innocents. We recall with grief and heartbreak the mothers and fathers, sons and daughters, friends, colleagues and neighbors who perished. We reaffirm our commitment to the 9/11 families and the first responders and workers struggling with illness acquired sifting through the rubble in the line of duty.

Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement following reports that the Trump Administration still has not made September’s outreach payments to enrollment groups. At the end of last month, the Trump Administration announced devastating, last-minute cuts to outreach efforts.

Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi announced the departure of her Chief of Staff for more than four years, Nadeam Elshami.  Today, Pelosi named Daniel Weiss as her new Chief of Staff.

"On behalf of my colleagues, I want to thank Nadeam Elshami for his outstanding leadership for House Democrats and for more than 25 years of service to the House of Representatives," Leader Pelosi said. "

Nadeam's deep insight and effectiveness has been a vital part of our Caucus' unity throughout his time as Chief of Staff, especially during critical battles to protect the Affordable Care Act, Wall Street Reform and other landmark progress for working families."

Today, House Republicans blocked the immediate consideration of the bipartisan DREAM Act and signed their names to President Trump’s cowardly assault on innocent DREAMers across America. DACA recipients had the courage and patriotism to step out of the shadows, but House Republicans don’t have the courage or decency to hold an up or down vote on the DREAM Act.
