Russia’s brazen intervention in the 2016 election, exposed by the U.S. intelligence community, has been matched by brazen interventions in European nations before and since. San Francisco – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today in recognition of the 82nd birthday of His Holiness the Dalai Lama:

The Trump Defense Department’s decision insults the brave, honorable service of the transgender Americans already serving openly in our armed forces.

”Nine years ago, a Democratic Congress enacted the most sweeping veterans benefit and education law in generations. We honored our debt to the heroes in uniform who keep us safe, and restored the promise of a full, four-year college education for over 1.75 million Iraq and Afghanistan veterans and their families.

“President Trump’s discriminatory, unjust and dangerous Muslim and refugee ban undermines our national security and insults our founding values. While the Supreme Court’s move on Monday to largely lift the injunctions against this openly prejudicial ban is deeply disappointing, Americans should be even more alarmed by the Trump Administration’s capricious and cruel interpretation of that decision.

Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement on the Republican anti-immigrant bills passed by the House today: “The murder of Kathryn Steinle is a great tragedy. But the reality is that the wantonly anti-immigrant bills Republicans passed today will only make it harder for local law enforcement to fight crime and keep our communities safe. “Who is safer when immigrant families fear going to the police when they are witnesses or victims of crimes? Once again, the Trump Administration and Republicans in Congress have put their cruel agenda of discrimination ahead of safer communities. Republicans’ effort to withhold vital public safety funds to bully communities into rounding up immigrants is immoral, unconstitutional and dangerous. “States and communities must have the right to choose humane and effective law enforcement strategies that protect and serve, not deport and intimidate. While Republicans fan the flames of hate and bigotry, Democrats will continue to fight for the comprehensive immigration reform our nation needs.”

Congressman Thompson has been a champion for protecting the homeland of our country and really has been a persistent advocate, dissatisfied sometimes in what has happened. He'll talk about that.
