"More than five months after the President requested emergency resources to protect American communities from Zika, we now have reports that local mosquitos are spreading the Zika virus on the U.S. mainland. Yet, with more than 5,230 Americans – including more than 770 pregnant women – as confirmed Zika cases, the Republican Congress has left town for seven weeks having failed to provide the resources needed to protect the American people.
"The American people mourn the victims and pray for the survivors of a despicable attack on peaceful protestors in Kabul. Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Afghanistan.
"Hazaras gathered at this peaceful demonstration were simply exercising their right to demand resources for their families. The international community must forcefully reject any attempts to silence with violence the voices of peaceful demonstrators and religious minorities.
"Today, Americans join the international community in mourning the loss of life, praying for the survivors, and uniting to confront the scourge of violence in Munich.
"Until all communities can enjoy peace, safety, and security, our work remains.
"As we stand with the people of Germany, we extend our condolences to all who have been affected by this horrific attack. May the loved ones of the victims and survivors find some solace in the fact that the American people share in their sadness at this difficult time."
