Press Releases
Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi held her weekly press conference today in the Capitol Visitor Center. Below are the Speaker's remarks:
Speaker Pelosi. Good afternoon, everyone.
This has been quite a day. But I have to tell you that we began the day – this being Women's History Month — honoring women in history. And one of them is in the present: Billie Jean King came. We all basked in the glow of Billie Jean King as we honored Patsy Mink.
Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi hosted an Annual Women's History Month event honoring Billie Jean King and women athletes with special recognition of the late Congresswoman Patsy Mink, the author and sponsor of Title IX, landmark legislation that has been a pillar of equity, opportunity and education in helping women chase their dreams in the classroom, on the field and in every arena. Below are the Speaker's remarks:
Speaker Pelosi. Good morning, everyone. Welcome to Statuary Hall on this very special occasion. As Speaker of the House, it is my honor to welcome each and every one of you to the United States Capitol to celebrate Women's History Month: a special season to pay tribute to many leaders on whose shoulders we stand.
Today, we have the privilege of honoring an all-American icon, Billie Jean King –
[Applause]
Dear Democratic Colleague,
As you know, the Administration has requested that we include in our omnibus package additional funding to continue our battle against COVID. The funding requested will protect against potential new variants and help vaccinate the world.
Dear Democratic Colleague,
It is with great pride that, today, the House will vote on an historic, bipartisan government funding bill that delivers For The People. This legislation will strengthen our national security, bolster our economic prosperity and advance our shared democratic values — and it will follow through on America's commitment to the people of Ukraine.
As you may know, Democrats waged a hard-fought fight under the former Administration for state and local funding to combat the COVID crisis. Thankfully, under President Biden, we were finally able to secure this crucial funding in our American Rescue Plan.
Washington, D.C.–House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer issued the following statement announcing a historic bipartisan Omnibus Appropriations Agreement for Fiscal Year 2022:
"We are pleased to announce that we have reached a historic bipartisan Omnibus Appropriations Agreement for the American people for the remainder of FY2022. This bipartisan agreement will help us address many of the major challenges we face at home and abroad: from COVID-19, to the vicious and immoral attack on Ukraine, to the need to lower costs for hardworking American families.
Dear Democratic Colleague,
Today, President Biden again demonstrated America's strength and determination to hold Putin accountable for his premeditated, unprovoked war against Ukraine. The Congress commends the President for announcing action to stop the import of Russian energy products into the United States – which we will support by passing strong, bipartisan legislation to that effect today.
Our bill contains three major provisions that will further isolate Russia from the global economy and leave it weaker in every way:
Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued the following statement in recognition of International Women's Day:
"More than a century ago, immigrant women in New York City organized against deadly working conditions and fought for equality. Their solidarity led to the commemoration of International Women's Day – an occasion for celebrating the generations of trailblazing women who, in the face of daily hardship and systemic discrimination, have paved a path toward gender justice. This day also serves as a global rallying cry, calling on us to advance the rights and dignities of women at home, at work and in every part of life.
Dear Democratic Colleague,
Tragically, Russia continues its premeditated, unprovoked war against Ukraine: violating its sovereignty and territorial integrity, committing war crimes against civilians and engaging in disinformation about the purpose of their invasion. The United States remains ironclad in our commitment to the Ukrainian people and in unity with our allies.
San Francisco – Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued the following statement on the February jobs report, which showed that the U.S. created 678,000 jobs last month:
"Today's jobs report is further evidence of a record-breaking jobs recovery. Under the leadership of President Biden and Democratic Majorities in Congress over the last thirteen months, our nation has created 7.4 million jobs while slashing unemployment from 6.4 percent to 3.8 percent. These extraordinary gains, including the best job growth in manufacturing and trucking in nearly three decades, are powered in large part by our American Rescue Plan and Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi held her weekly press conference today in the Capitol Visitor Center. Below are the Speaker's remarks:
Speaker Pelosi. Good morning. Good morning. Here we are. Just came from the Floor. We are passing the PACT Act. It's pretty exciting.
