Press Release
April 18, 2007
"'The Senate vote occurred on the same day that Families USA issued a new report finding that drug prices are going up despite the repeated assertions by the Bush Administration that Medicare Part D is bringing drug prices down. The report finds that for the top 15 drugs prescribed for seniors, the median Medicare Part D price has skyrocketed in the last year, growing by 9.2 percent -- almost four times the inflation rate of 2.4 percent."
Press Release

"'As Americans pay our taxes this week, we deserve a government that reflects our priorities for the future, but also respects the value of taxpayer dollars,' said Speaker Nancy Pelosi. 'From taxpayer protections, to 'pay-as-you-go' spending discipline, to reforms in government contracting, Democrats are restoring accountability and fiscal responsibility to Washington.'"
Press Release
April 16, 2007
"'The Democratic leadership of Congress will work with President Bush and our Republican colleagues to build consensus that provides for our veterans, protects our troops, rebuilds our military, holds the Iraqi government accountable, and responsibly winds down this war. Both the House and Senate have passed bills that call for accountability in the President's Iraq policy for the first time since this war began more than four years ago."
Press Release

"'Mr. Speaker, it is with great sadness that I rise to acknowledge that today our country has been struck by a terrible, terrible tragedy. The death toll at Virginia Tech now is over 30. This is the worst campus shooting in the history of our country."
Press Release
April 16, 2007
"'Today's rally affirms an enduring principle of our democracy: the right to be heard and represented. For more than 200 years, the people of the District of Columbia have been denied full voting representation. The bipartisan D.C. Vote legislation by Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton and Congressman Tom Davis corrects a serious flaw in our democracy."
Press Release
April 13, 2007
"'Beginning with the first 100 hours, the House passed, with broad bipartisan support, legislation to make America safer at home; make our economy stronger and fairer; make college more accessible; make health care more affordable; advance embryonic stem cell research; and bring us closer to our goal of energy independence. We restored openness and accountability to our government with tough ethical reforms."
Press Release
April 11, 2007
"'Today's announcement just underscores the fact that the burden of the war in Iraq has fallen upon our troops and their families. The Bush Administration has failed to create a plan to fully equip and train our troops, bring them home safely and soon, and provide our veterans with the quality care they deserve."
Press Release
April 11, 2007
"'Like Americans all across the country, I want to express my deep disgust with the despicable words used by Don Imus. What he said was indefensible, and hurtful. Such racist and sexist words have no place in our society. His words do not reflect the values of hope and opportunity that these outstanding young women represent, nor do they represent the aspirations of our nation. As we commemorate the 35th anniversary of Title IX this year, we should celebrate the achievements and contributions of our young women athletes, not denigrate them with reprehensible comments."
Press Release
April 11, 2007
"'Democrats in Congress want to sit down with the President to talk about the best way to both fully fund our troops and move forward in Iraq. We have sent him repeated requests to do so, the most recent today. We have been disappointed with the President's decision to avoid a serious, substantive discussion with Congress on Iraq."
Press Release
April 10, 2007
"'The American people want the President and the Congress to work together to bring a responsible end to the war in Iraq. Congressional Democrats are willing to meet with the President at any time, but we believe that any discussion of an issue as critical as Iraq must be accomplished by conducting serious negotiations without any preconditions. Our goal should be to produce an Iraq supplemental bill that both fully funds our troops and gives them a strategy for success."
