I think it's very clear to see why we are so blessed to have Peter DeFazio as the Chair of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. He has decades of experience and knowledge on the subject. He has a vision about how we take our country into the future. As I say to him all the time, ‘Peter, our hopes are riding on you.' Because he knows the territory, and he knows the issues.
Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi released this statement after a meeting of the bipartisan, bicameral Congressional Leadership with President Biden at the White House:
"Today's bipartisan leadership meeting with the President was constructive and encouraging. The President was clear in his vision for a big, bold and bipartisan infrastructure initiative.
"There is bipartisan recognition of the need for not only infrastructure repair but new infrastructure investment. The meeting was a good early step, which I am hopeful will take us toward the big and bold vision of President Biden, which Congressional Democrats share, as soon as possible.
"I thank the President for his determination to Build Back Better."
Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced the following new committee assignments for the 117th Congress. Congressman Steven Horsford of Nevada will join the House Armed Services Committee, Congressman Joe Neguse of Colorado will join the House Rules Committee and Congressman Troy Carter of Louisiana, who was sworn in yesterday, will serve on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and the House Small Business Committee.
"As Speaker, it is a privilege to name these three outstanding Members of Congress to these vital committees," said Speaker Nancy Pelosi. "Strengthened by their experience, commitment and ingenuity, the Democratic House will continue our work to help our nation Build Back Better after this crisis, in a way that lifts up all families.
Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued this statement on the escalating rocket attacks by Hamas:
"I condemn the escalating and indiscriminate rocket attacks by Hamas against Israel. Israel has the right to defend herself against this assault, which is designed to sow terror and undermine prospects for peace.
"Every civilian death is a tragedy that we mourn. Hamas's accelerating violence only risks killing more civilians, including innocent Palestinians.
"The recent inflammatory provocations including by extremist forces in Jerusalem have exacerbated the situation, and restraint must be shown by all to de-escalate the crisis.
"Let us all pray that the situation will be resolved immediately and peacefully."
Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued this statement after the Biden Administration announced that one million Americans signed up for health coverage under an Affordable Care Act special enrollment period. The Special Enrollment Period will continue through August 15:
"Thanks to President Biden's action, one million more Americans are now enrolled in life-saving health coverage during this pandemic, including many who have lost coverage through no fault of their own.
San Francisco – Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued this statement after the Biden Administration announced guidance on the Coronavirus State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds, established by Democrats' American Rescue Plan Act, which provides $350 billion in emergency funding for state, local, territorial and tribal governments:

San Francisco – Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued this statement after the Biden Administration announced that anti-discrimination protections in health care extend to LGBTQ Americans, reversing a Trump-era policy:
"Today, the Biden Administration has taken essential and potentially life-saving action to affirm that all people in America have the right to quality, affordable health care – no matter who they are or whom they love. During this time of pandemic and always, it is vital that the most vulnerable have access to care, including LGBTQ Americans, who have long suffered injustice and discrimination that has left them dangerously exposed to health risks.
