Health insurance reform opponents continue to spread myths about components of America's Affordable Health Choices Act, including the myth that doctors oppose current health insurance reform proposals. This evening, the New England Journal of Medicine released a survey conducted by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation showing overwhelming support among physicians from across the country for a public health insurance option as part of comprehensive health insurance reform.

This afternoon, the House passed a resolution commemorating the 15th anniversary of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) and what it has meant for American women. VAWA, and its subsequent reauthorizations, strengthened our criminal laws, provided funding to improve the criminal justice system's response to crimes against women, laid the groundwork for local coordinated community responses to end violence against women, and greatly increased awareness and understanding about the specialized needs of victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking.

Health insurance reform opponents continue to spread myths about components of America's Affordable Health Choices Act, including the thoroughly debunked myth that the House bill will provide taxpayer-financed health coverage for undocumented immigrants. The facts disprove their politically divisive distortions and, in some cases, simple misunderstandings of what's in the bill.

Fact: This myth has been thoroughly debunked by at least four independent organizations and news media outlets:

Every year on September 11, we remember the victims and honor the heroes of that fateful morning eight years ago. We are reminded of the nearly 3,000 American lives cut short during this unspeakable tragedy. We recall the firefighters and first responders, the rescue workers and all who perished trying to save others.

It is in their names that we pledge to never forget the attacks. It is in their memories that we rededicate ourselves to the values we hold most dear: freedom and equality, pluralism and the rule of law.
