Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy is still refusing to set a meeting with D.C. Metropolitan Police Officer Michael Fanone to discuss the horrors he experienced.
Officer Fanone was beaten with a flag pole, concussed, and suffered a heart attack while protecting McCarthy and other lawmakers from Capitol insurrectionists.
As CNN's Jake Tapper and Abby Phillip explain, McCarthy's refusal to speak with Officer Fanone is part of the Republican Leader's attempt to downplay the insurrection and "create a myth around what happened". A myth that may explain why McCarthy is urging his members to vote against a bipartisan commission to study the insurrection.

As Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy attempts to block the creation of a bipartisan commission to examine January 6th, the Republican Leader is also refusing to set a meeting with a DC police officer hoping to share his story from the day of the insurrection.
Officer Mike Fanone was beaten with a flag pole, concussed, and suffered a heart attack and horrendous wounds while protecting the Capitol from insurrectionists on January 6th. But despite claiming that he's open to meeting with Officer Mike Fanone, McCarthy's office has refused to set a date for a meeting – all while supporting the lies members of his conference and former President Trump continue to tell about the insurrection.
Washington, D.C. —Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued this statement on Minority Leader McCarthy's new opposition to the agreement on the bipartisan January 6th Commission reached by his own Ranking Member of the Homeland Security Committee:
"On Wednesday, the House will vote on the National Commission to Investigate the January 6 Attack on the United States Capitol Complex Act. This commission is modeled after the 9/11 Commission to seek the truth of what happened on January 6th. I commend Chairman Bennie Thompson and Ranking Member John Katko for their steadfast leadership in securing a bipartisan agreement. It is important to note that the legislation to create the 9/11 Commission took more than 14 months to enact.
