This morning, KGO Newstalk AM 810 in San Francisco became the first broadcast media outlet in California to transmit using solar power. Speaker Pelosi flipped the solar power switch on KGO's Ronn Owens Show saying, "Congratulations to you and to KGO. Thank you for saying that we're all part of history to be here for this, but we're also all part of the future. This is absolutely great and it's a manifestation of the policies that we have to present in our country to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels and foreign oil...so congratulations to KGO for taking this giant step into the future. I am delighted to be here with you."

U.S. Economy Shrinks in Third Quarter
October 30, 2008
Today, the Department of Commerce released the third quarter Gross Domestic Product (GDP) numbers, which shrank at a 0.3 percent annual rate, marking the worst showing since the 2001 recession, and weekly applications for unemployment benefits, which remained at 478,000, near an all time high.

Conyers, Brady, Nadler, Lofgren Write to Secretaries of State Regarding Voting Issues

House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers, Jr., House Administration Committee Chairman Robert Brady, and respective Subcommittee Chairs Jerrold Nadler and Zoe Lofgren sent letters to each state's Secretary of State insisting "local election officials to take preemptive steps to prevent voting problems at the polls during the general election."

Our democracy depends on protecting the right of every American citizen to vote in every election. Every vote counts, and every vote must be counted.

As the Supreme Court has noted, 'No right is more precious in a free country than that of having a voice in the election of those who make the law, under which, as good citizens, we must live.'
