San Francisco – Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued this statement on President Biden's executive orders on gun violence prevention:

"Every day, the gun violence epidemic reaches into countless communities, forcing families across America to endure unfathomable pain and anguish. More than 41,000 Americans died from gun violence last year, the highest year by far on record, with the most vulnerable – women, children, communities of color – cruelly and disproportionately affected.

San Francisco – Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued this statement after President Biden nominated Patricia Ross, who currently serves as Senior Policy Advisor in the Office of the Speaker, to serve as Assistant Secretary for the Office of Congressional and Legislative Affairs at Department of Veterans Affairs:

"President Biden has chosen an expert of domestic policymaking in appointing Patricia Ross to this critical position. Her commitment to our veterans is ironclad and personal, with a long line of veterans in her family. Patti has been a critical asset to the Speaker's Office and the Democratic Caucus for a decade. Her leadership will be important to the Veteran Affairs Department – and the millions of veterans, families and caregivers who rely on it – in her new position.

San Francisco – Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued this statement after Saudi humanitarian aid worker Abdulrahman al-Sadhan was sentenced by the Kingdom to twenty years in prison followed by a twenty-year travel ban for engaging in peaceful dissent anonymously on Twitter. Al-Sadhan's family are San Francisco residents:

"The brutal sentencing of humanitarian aid worker Abdulrahman al-Sadhan, which follows his years-long disappearance and imprisonment without trial, is a grave and appalling injustice. This act continues Saudi Arabia's profoundly disturbing assault on the freedom of expression and its pattern of human rights abuses, which must be condemned by all freedom-loving people worldwide.

Washington, D.C. – House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer today announced that late U.S. Capitol Police Officer William ‘Billy' F. Evans will lie in honor in the United States Capitol Rotunda.

Officer William Evans was an 18-year veteran of the Capitol Police, who died in the line of duty protecting the U.S. Capitol on April 2, 2021, Good Friday.

"The United States Congress joins all Americans in mourning the tragic death of one of our Capitol Police heroes, Officer Billy Evans," said Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer. "In giving his life to protect our Capitol and our Country, Officer Evans became a martyr for our democracy. On behalf of the entire Congress, we are profoundly grateful."
