“The Trump effort to end the Census early has been resoundingly rejected by experts, including in the Government Accountability Office, Commerce Department Inspector General and Census Scientific Advisory Committee, who all warn that the accelerated schedule will result in an inaccurate Census that will deny vulnerable communities the representation and funds they are entitled to. Specifically, the Census Bureau officials have stated that curtailing the Census is ‘ludicrous’ and will result in ‘fatal data flaws that are unacceptable for a constitutionally mandated national activity.’"

As you know, last week, the President suspended negotiations that had been proceeding on our Heroes Act. As you further know, following his tweet, the stock market went down and so did he in the polls. Subsequently, Secretary Mnuchin came back to the negotiating table, and this weekend, the Administration issued a proposal that amounted to one step forward, two steps back. In fact, in some instances, it makes matters worse.

Yesterday, over 54,000 new cases of the virus were reported. This is the fourth day of over 50,000 new cases. It has always been imperative that we follow the science with a bold strategic plan to crush the virus. As the infections soar and the deaths increase, this priority continues to be urgent.

On Friday, the Trump Administration returned to the table with a proposal that attempted to address some of the concerns Democrats have in the coronavirus relief negotiations. This proposal amounted to one step forward, two steps back. When the President talks about wanting a bigger relief package, his proposal appears to mean that he wants more money at his discretion to grant or withhold, rather than agreeing on language prescribing how we honor our workers, crush the virus and put money in the pockets of workers.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi joined Congressman Jamie Raskin (D-MD) for a press conference to discuss the introduction of the Commission on Presidential Capacity to Discharge the Powers and Duties of Office Act. The legislation would create the Commission on Presidential Capacity to Discharge the Powers and Duties of Office, the body and process called for in the 25th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution to enable Congress to help ensure effective and uninterrupted leadership in the highest office in the Executive branch of government.

Right now, in the middle of tense COVID relief negotiations, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is putting the presidential transfer of power process front and center on Capitol Hill. Just a few moments ago, the Speaker announced that she is reintroducing legislation that would create what's called a Commission on Presidential Capacity. That Congressional Commission would be involved in triggering presidential transfer of power procedures under the 25th Amendment.

Overnight, another 56,000 were reported infected. Yet the President irresponsibly still refuses to engage in mask wearing and social distancing.
