On Labor Day, our nation pays tribute to the working Americans who are the backbone of our economy and the foundation of our strength – remembering that the middle class has a union label on it.

In 2015, he attacked Senator John McCain saying that ‘I like people who weren’t captured.’ Every day, Trump makes clear that he does not comprehend what it means to sacrifice for one’s country – as he consistently puts his own interests ahead of our national security and those who defend it.

Chairman Bobby Scott of Virginia delivered the Weekly Democratic Address. In this week’s address, the Chairman discussed the impact of the pandemic on children and underscored the urgent need for the Senate to pass the Heroes Act, which would ensure schools are safe for children, teachers and families to begin the school year without risking their health and safety.

The August jobs report highlights the continuing urgent need for action as the economic recovery stimulated by Congress’s early and robust investments continues to slow down.

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) today sent a letter to Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross and Director of the U.S. Census Bureau Steven Dillingham, condemning the Trump Administration’s sudden reversal of earlier plans to delay Census operations during the coronavirus pandemic, a move that threatens the completeness and accuracy of the 2020 Census. Speaker Pelosi and Leader Schumer are requesting detailed information about the Administration’s decision-making process, as well as a series of key documents and communications related to the decision to cut off the census count ahead of schedule.
